The tor project (imo) is the most worthwhile project on the internet today, it is such an important service it provides.

This project should, and even must, be delivered on distributions like Ubuntu by default with GUIs so more users (mostly the unexperienced) will be well aware to the existence of this project.

 PROXY Applications

Firefox [XUL]: (extensions)
AutoProxy - http://autoproxy.org/
Multiproxy Switch - http://multiproxyswitch.blogspot.com/

We should have these ported to GTK or QT or something for those who don't have a newish computer machine to run Firefox or XUL or libraries for those who don't want to install Firefox or XUL libraries ;)

'Proxy Switcher Pro' is the BEST privacy tool I've ever got to use with!
- it has the ability to switch Proxy automatically, and that depends on what the user defined.
- it is able to classify Proxies by state/country or by a service provider.
- see: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Servers/Proxy-Servers/Proxy-Switcher-Standard.shtml

************************
What I really liked there, especially, is the ability to connect it to ANY web-browser or ANY other application that is connected to the web and has its own 'plain and simple' proxy support.

This is the main reason why I use TOR on GNU/Linux since I can use it with Midori, Konqueror & Firefox and there are no stupid browser-specific extensions in between so I won't waste too much time to configure the other web browser (or any other application that is connected to the web) to protect my privacy online.
************************

I don't need a feature to sort proxies or to check dead/live proxies etc. What I REALLY NEED is an application that is just able to manage a proxy list and to be able to connect it to ANY web-browser or a bittorrent client etc. etc. (as long as the application itself has a simple proxy support in it, duh!)

I'm NOT using 'Proxy Switcher Pro' since it is NOT a Free-Software AND is NOT for X11 platform (GNU/Linux, GNU/FreeBSD etc.)
NOTE: I used a LEGAL copy and I bought five (5) licenses of the "Pro" version of 'Proxy Switcher'

And last but not least: If someone can hear me... please clone it to GTK/QT platform. thanks ;)

a short review about 'Proxy Switcher Lite' at Lifehacker http://lifehacker.com/5130903/proxy-switcher-quickly-changes-your-current-connection

you get the point: "Proxy Switcher Lite should work perfectly whether you're using Internet Explorer, Opera, or any application that relies on the Windows proxy settings."
