Description:

A simple and elegant usplash start-up screen.

During the throbbing stages a subtle focus spins around the Ubuntu logo.

During the loading stages, the logo builds into view instead of a progress bar. This means that instead of having a progress bar going across, roughly 30% of the logo is built when the start-up process is 30% complete.

The logo is build piece by piece from a faint outline to a solid complete Ubuntu logo.

It's a cool effect, that is difficult to explain in words. Have a look for yourself - you won't be disappointed.

Notes:
Will work with most standard resolutions.

You'll need to compile the usplash to get it working on your computer, but this isn't at all difficult. You'll need the following installed:

1. libusplash-dev
2. gcc

Exact installation instructions are given in the readme. Instructions for reverting back to your original usplash
are also included.

TODO:
Although it's a minor difference, the usplash currently looks the best with the higher resolutions. When I find the time I'll provide alternate versions for lower resolutions.

Edit:
This isn't designed to work with Ubuntu from Lucid Onwards, as Ubuntu has started using plymouth and not usplash. As a result, I don't know if this will work with the latest Ubuntu, and I have also ceased development of this theme.

It's the greatest bootsplash I've ever seen! wonderful work! Thanks a lot!

It a bit hard to compile, but not so much. you need to install libgb-tools and libusplash-dev

Thanks a lot, and I'm glad you like it.

I forgot about the tools required to compile it... Thanks for mentioning it.

I had a brief look at the time based progress bar, and it looks like all you'd have to do is move the body of the draw progress bar method into the animate method and change a few variable names. It would probably be a good small project to get to know how these things work.

I don't entirely agree with the approach taken to get it to be smooth, or whether a smooth progress bar really is that beneficial. So I'm reluctant to implement it myself. I'd rather spend my time making simpler version of my usplash (ie without the background and with ubuntu colours).

What errors do you get? Maybe I can help you get it compiling.

I'm not sure if a .so compiled on my computer will necessarily work on your computer, and they're also relatively large in size.

 WXGA Support

Hi, could you consider adding WXGA support for your great theme? More specifically for 1280×800, it's a common WXGA resolution that is being used by many recent HP notebooks.

Hi,

I'm not quite sure what you need. My screen is also 16:10 (1680x1050) and the widescreen version works fine for me.

My usplash runs in 4:3 mode, so in order to create the widescreen version the widescreen images are saved in 4:3 sizes but have been distorted so that they look correct when usplash distorts them again when trying to display a 4:3 image on a 16:10 screen.

If your computer is doing something else let me know what resolution your usplash runs at, and I'll see what I can do. (a hackish way of doing this is just editing the bg_#x#.png images in my tarball to identify each resolution, install the usplash and then restart).

Hi, sorry for not making it very clear in the first place.

My notebook is 1280×800 and I was hoping the Usplash would use the bg_1280x1024.png image with the top and bottom trimmed out. However it is using the bg_1024x768.png one to fit into my 1280×800 screen hence it's blurred and not looking so good. Is it possible to have it to use the higher resolution image instead as I originally hoped? Thanks!

Hi,

I added another version which should work for your screen resolution. This will only work for a 1024x768 resolution on a widescreen display. It's a simple resize of the 1280x1024 version. Let me know if it works - I don't have a screen to test it on, but it looked like it would work on my screen.

Hi
Can you please provide an update repository so we can automatically get notified for new updates of your theme?

It is really beautiful, thank you.

Hey,

That's a good idea, but it is extremely unlikely that I'll make any adjustments to the theme that make it worth creating a repository.
