Description:

THE REAL LiNsta THEME :-)

GTK2 theme for those who like Vista-ish themes.

CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS are welcome ;-)

This theme is totally original : it is based on Murrina engine (last version) and pixbuf engine for panels, menubars, and toolbars.

Panels, menubars and toolbars come from my first LiNsta version (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/LiNsta+%28LiNsta+is+Not+Vista+%3B-%29?content=42697) with many bug corrections and enhancements.

Everybody can customize its own version for panels, menubars and toolbars. There are some examples in the gtkrc file.

To install this theme, simply drag and drop the file in the theme pref window (in the preferences menu). It should install itself in the right place (under your .themes folder).

Best Emerald themes : all those having Vista-ish look.

ABOUT SCREENSHOTS :
-System : Ubuntu 6.06 (I'm waiting for the next LTS version) with Beryl 0.3.0 git for Dapper;
-Wallpaper : Innoculated Vision from djosiris in deviantART (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/53328754/?qo=3&q=by%3Adjosiris&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps);
-Desklets : adesklets I developped to have a good Vista-ish look. These adesklets are in alpha version for now. I will publish them soon.
-Icons theme : Icons are based on themes I found on deviantART for Window$ XP. I don't think I can publish them (probably not free).

THANKS :
Special thanks to Almond for his inspiration.
Many thanks to the guys who developed desklets for adesklets system.

ABOUT MY WORK :
If you want to use one or more parts of this theme, please mention my name.

 Keep it up!

I've followed your work since the original LiNsta pixmap theme. It keeps getting better and better. With stuff like this, who needs Shista? Keep up the great work!

One request: not everyone runs Ubuntu, perhaps you could distribute distro-neutral icons with the theme so people like me can simply hack the gtkrc?

First, many thanks for your support and your interest

The icons theme seen on screenshots is not part of Ubuntu distro.

So you can delete the "Murrina-LiNsta" file in the ~/.themes/Murrina-LiNsta folder. The complete LiNsta-Murrina theme won't be seen in the theme pref window, and you'll be able to access it via theme-detail button.

Seriously, I am impressed to see the succes of this theme.
So, many thanks for you, and for all those who like my job, and support me.

I'll publish soon other things to improve vista-ish look.

My best icon themes to use with are, in my opinion :
- nuoveXT (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/nuoveXT?content=26448)
- Complexity (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Complexity?content=29443)

I'd also recommend <a href="http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Dropline+Neu%21?content=38835">Dropline Neu!</a>.

I love the theme... Great job!

Unfortunately it seems that the "Create Launcher" window (e.g. right-click on the desktop and select "Create Launcher") is still treated as a panel, just as it was in earlier versions.

Thanks!

I'm really really new to Ubuntu, and I am obsessed with making my computer look nice (themes). This is the exact theme I want, but due to my inexperience and lack of knowledge in accordance with Linux, I was hoping you could send me an email with step-by-step instructions on how to make my computer look just like those screenshots...

Thanks, email is b.qureshi21@hotmail.com

Oh, I understand ... not like Win...XP.
The best thing I have to say to you is to experiment yourself customizing Gnome (oops, my english is not as good as I would like ... I'm french, and everybody knows french people don't speak English ;-)

In fact, and I'm very sorry, I haven't time to explain you how to do to improve your computer look.

But, here is a good link where you will find a lot of explanations : http://www.taimila.com/

Good luck for this exploration :-)

 Panel Dialogs

by FiremanSam on: Jun 26 2007

Score 50%

I noticed with this theme and the other LiNsta themes that the launcher properties dialog was striped with a black background.

I've done some hacking and found that if I replace the Panel stuff in the gtkrc with the following, the panel dialogs work better:

# panel stuff
class "*PanelApplet*" style "panel-black"
widget_class "*Panel*GtkToggleButton" style "panelbuttons-black"
widget_class "*PanelToplevel*" style "panel-black"
widget_class "*PanelDItemEditor*" style "theme-default"
widget_class "*Panel*Dialog*" style "theme-default"

Your mileage may vary

I had these same difficulties.
In this new theme, with this gtkrc (without your code), the panel stuffs are modified and, in my case, there are no longer these problems.

I tried your code and I noticed the font color is not good (black), and some applet backgrounds are white.

If anyone else has the same difficulties, let me know. I will work on.

I don't think so. Perhaps I'm wrong. What is your version of Murrina engine ? Are you using Gnome-Color-Chooser ?

I created and tested this theme with Murrina engine version 0.53 (not 0.53.1 because of a bug).
I forgot differences between 0.52 and 0.53 but this can explain the bad rendering.
I also noticed Murrina engine had strange and unexpected reactions.

If someone using 0.52 version has also this kind of reactions, please tell me.

I'm using 0.52 and am having the same problem. I just mentioned it above, because I hadn't read this far yet.

I can also confirm that the changes listed above work, although they mess up other things. Specifically, they change the color of the buttons in the window list applet and the color of the text with the netspeed applet.

You have to install Beryl or Compiz, and change some parameters to make panels, dropdownmenus and popupmenus more translucent.

 windowborder&Buttons

Its a very good looking theme. But I don't know, why my buttons and scrollbars are like the Gnome-Standard-Theme. And it seems, that the window-borders (i don't know the right english word for that) are not in ur theme. How's that theme called? Or am i wrong?

Reporting a Bug: in Firefox by selecting a text-input its all black (background and font).

Did you install murrina and pixbuf engines ? You need them to apply this theme.

About the window borders, you won't find them in Murrina-LiNsta because Murrina-LiNsta is a GTK2 theme, not Emerald nor Compiz nor Metacity theme.

To have the same look, you have to install Beryl and Emerald, and to go in the Beryl section of this site and find a "vista-ish" theme, like "VistaBlack", "Vista-Linux", or "True-Vista Experience" or an other one.

If you don't want (or if you can't) install Beryl/Emerald, or Compiz, you can use the Gnome default windows manager aka Metacity. I posted some "vista-ish" themes in a LiNsta Pack (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/LiNsta+%28LiNsta+is+Not+Vista+%3B-%29+Pack?content=41090).

About Firefox bug, Firefox needs a specific theme because it is partially incompatible with Gnome ones.

OK, my mistake, sorry.

And many thanks for the link!

But the Firefox-Problem is not firefox. When I rename a file on the desktop, it occurs black on black, too.

I can confirm this one too, using Murrine 0.52 again. When renaming desktop icons, everything turns black when positioning the cursor within the box. The same thing happens in Firefox when double-clicking within an input box brings up a drop-down menu of recent entries. Otherwise, everything else seems to work fine in Firefox.

After further inspection, I can confirm that it does this in a few different places in Firefox. The most obvious one is the location drop-down box. This makes Firefox unusable, so I hope it can be fixed with my userChrome settings.
