Description:

This is a clone of the windows vista aero style.

This theme is based on etiennealaurent`s LiNsta theme which you can get here:
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/LiNsta+%28LiNsta+is+Not+Vista+%3B-%29?content=42697

What makes this theme special:

-Apps have different toolbar styles!
Nautilus = green
Eog (gnome picture viewer) = black
all other apps have normal gray toolbars

-The Vista button is not a wallpaper (its a screenlet)

----------Installation------------

visit the installation Howto at my blog:
http://gnomestyle.blogspot.com/2007/05/make-ubuntu-look-like-vista.html

0.This theme needs the microsoft segoe UI font to look good.
Look at this Forum > second post
http://www.crashboard.net/index.php?showtopic=1750&pid=17968&mode=threaded&start=

1.Install the beryl and gtk theme as usuall

2.Install the nuoveXT-aero icon set

or

Place the "start-here" icon in /usr/share/icons/gnome/32x32/places or run the "place-the-icon.sh" script in the terminal (it asks for the root password)

3. Change the gnome-panel size to 32px height

4.Install the "orb" screenlet (you need to have the application "screenlets" installed). Place the orb screenlet above the main-menu button and lock the position.

You can get "Screenlets" here:
http://www.compiz.org/Desktop_Screenlets

------------------

ps: If you don`t like vista clones, check out my other uploads. :)

Hi! I like this theme but I want to keep the GNome Main Menu Bar. So I don't install the Vista button and orb screenlet. The problem is that Main Menu Bar appears with light blue and white color and white text.

Can you tell me how to change de Main Menu Bar colour? I would like a dark blue colour with white text.

Thank you very much, this theme is the most beautiful I have seen.

The ubuntu mainmenu alwalys uses the default menubar of the theme. Thats why it is not possible to make it blue without making all menubars blue.

Ok I understand, now with your last update the text is black and the main menu bar blue and white. This is the best solution, thank you very much.

Well then is it possible to make the top menu bar light and the bottom dark? Just something to make them look good.

 'Orb' Screenlet

Hi. Great theme. Pretty soon all my mates will want to get Vista just so they can do the spinning cube as well!! LOL.

One question. As I understand it, 'screenlets' are Compiz-specific and don't work with Beryl. Is this correct or am I missing out on some Beryl functionality?

O.M.G.

I didn't know that. How do I set up screenlets? I'm using version 0.2.0rc3 and I can't see them anywhere in Beryl Manager

You could try the USP (Ubuntu Service Panel) or the 'SuSE Slab' but these do not look like Vista's menu.

I've you've installed both Gnome and KDE then you could try running a 'hybrid' by 'killall gnome-panel' (Gnome's taskbar) and then execute 'kicker' (KDE's taskbar).

However, if you want Linux to look like Vista that much, you might as well run Vista - virtualised, of course.

 This is LiNsta mod !

You didn't mention your theme is a mod of my LiNsta theme.

Please mention it : I spent a lot of times time to build it. So, in fact, I'm very happy you can use it, but mention it ;-)

And why did you choose a Proprietary License for this work while mine is a free license ?

In the same maner, in the gtkrc file, change my name with yours, and mention mine. And you can delete all non necessary files ;-)

Otherwise, your work is very good :-)

Can I use your idea about tool bars ?

Yes I will do that, sorry about that. I know how it feels to be "robbed".^^

"And why did you choose a Proprietary License for this work while mine is a free license ?"

Hmm, I don`t know if all the vista buttons are really gpl (I`m not well informed about licenses).

"In the same maner, in the gtkrc file, change my name with yours, and mention mine. And you can delete all non necessary files ;-)"
I think thats not soo important because almost nobody looks at the gtkrc.^^
But I am going to do that.

"Can I use your idea about tool bars ?"
Sure.

Take a second look at the howto:
Quote:

You need the microsoft segoe UI font.
Look at the second post in this Forum
Unzip the downloaded archive and place the two .ttf files in your .fonts directory.
You can find it in your user folder. /home/$USERNAME/.fonts/
For example: /home/kimmik/.fonts
If the directory .fonts does not exist, create it.

You only have to copy the font files (.ttf) in the .fonts directory (you can do that with nautilus)
