Too bad we won't have a number of votes eventually.
BTW voted for Unity, I find it just a tiny bit better than the other.

This will bias people to not like unity...
It seems like you're rooting for shell...

I think it would be the same if it were the opposite, perhaps we should vote for a voting system on here instead. I vote for GS obviously.

I made the "plus" and "minus" with the result of previous single polls of both (Unity and Gnome Shell). Watch here:

http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=140078

http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=140042

The polls were started when both desktops were in beta release and continued when both were finaly released. This poll is a new fresh start longer time after release of both desktops and it makes Unity and Gnome-Shell opponents.

obviously...
I wish Unity can be customized just like GS (atleast locating the launcher (left-right or bottom) and with launcher size being made flexible w.r.t the number of icons / apps kept !
if used in bottom, it can even mimic the functionality of a conventional dock ! this is my honest opinion... the developers are the best judge !

GS on the contrary seems to be more flexible and customizable... thanks to the extensions ! and ofcourse so many themes to choose from to keep in sync the ambiance of our desktop ! Cinnamon (forked from GS) seems to be the jewel in the crown for ease of use and easy access to apps for guys who were keeping away from G3 coz they dont want to leave G2+ !
viva Open Source !

... remains to be seen the new HUD for unity which is proposed to be used from 12.04 LTS ! Till then... GS will tend to attract more ? !

 Gnome Shell!!

 by k3mist on: Apr 13 2012

Score 50%

Unity performance is absolutely terrible and I wish I could say otherwise because it is likely I would have never switched. I had Unity running on 2 laptops and a desktop pc that would be considered by most to be high performance hardware. All terribly laggy running Unity, especially my ATI laptop.

I spent months trying to find fixes, tweaks, etc. I just gave up. Both laptop2 and desktop at home are now running Mint with Gnome Shell. laptop1 is my work laptop (dont have the time or desire to re-setup my development environments) and I had to put some effort into getting unity off the desktop completely. Gnome Shell 3.2+ is really nice, smooth and quite honestly less intrusive to my desktop experience. Never going back. Thanks Gnome team!

laptop 1: intel quad i7 @2.8 + nv 3100m
laptop 2: intel core2duo @2.2 + ati 3400
desktop: amd pII x4 965 BE @3.4 + gtx570
