Description:

Dark Matrix Theme is a GNOME desktop theme made from merge of Faenza-Dark, FaenzaWolve and FaenzaMint icon themes, modified BorderOnly window border and original GTK color scheme for dark colors which gives a nice dark theme. I also attached some tweaks in gtkrc file to fix hyper-link color present in applications like Evolution... Window Border is tiny and when window is maximized, is not shown for save space. Please fell free to comment and read the readme file for more info.

I use a transparent desktop terminal, so i use a more plain wallpaper for better reading, like wallpaper #1. If you use conventional desktop, you may use the famous system-failure wallpaper, this is wallpaper #2.

Also another similar window border that is in fact, a modified Metabox for left title centering.

For spanish users can read more in El Asterismo blog in this thread: (http://elasterismo.blogspot.com/2010/10/tema-de-escritorio-dark-para-gnome.html)

########################################
ENGLISH Instructions ########################################

The following are instructions to install Matrix theme merged by asterismo using Faenza-Dark, FaenzaWolve and FaenzaMint icon themes, modified BorderOnly window border and dark color scheme including modifications to color definitions in gtkrc file.

########### Instructions:

BorderOnly.tar.gz ---| System -> Preferences -> Appearence -> Install (installs window border: this window border shows no decoration in maximized windows without using maximus...)

FaenzaGreen.tar.gz --| System -> Preferences -> Appearence -> Install (installs icon theme)

Matrix.tar.gz -------| System -> Preferences -> Appearence -> Install (installs color scheme)

gtkrc ---------------| (color shmeme tune up): copy and replace this "gtkrc" file in folder /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0, the new contains modifications to link colors that cannot be edited with gnome-color-chooser that appears in Evolution email client. See reference in Ubuntu Forums thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1115478)

Matrix.ttf ----------| (theme font): copy as superuser this font in folder /usr/share/fonts, open a terminal in font folder and write "sudo cp Matrix.ttf /usr/share/fonts" and insert password. System need to reboot in order to change to the new font in System -> Preferences -> Appearence -> Fonts

Blackwall.jpg -------| (wallpaper): copy image file to desired folder and add it to background images in System - Preferences - Appearence - Background Tab --- Add

Comments: window buttons can be aligned to left or right and this can be easily done with ubuntu-tweak, i use at left. Font size i use all at 9.

########################################

Changelog:

Version 1.0 to 1.1

Changed border color of inactive window to visible gray, and added another wallpaper and LeftMetabox window border.

Switched to binfire file hosting

Version 1.1 to 1.2

- Added icons for astronomy and office applications like IRAF, ds9, lyx, MATLAB, Skycharts, XEphem and Kompozer, download and uncompress (misc-icons.tar.gz) and move icons to /usr/share/pixmaps

- Generated icons for Firefox and GWibber for display in window-picker-applet. Dowload and uncompress both (firefox-icons.tar.gz) and (gwibber-icons.tar.gz) and do as follows.

Move Firefox icons to /usr/lib/firefox-X.X.X/chrome/icons/default and replace/backup old ones. Here X.X.X is firefox version, this changes with each firefox update and must redo each time.

Move GWibber icons to /usr/share/gwibber/ui and replace/backup old ones.

Version 1.2 to 1.3

Added mark-mail-new.png icons for evolution to be shown in window-0picker-applet. This icon is shown instead default evolution icon when new mail arrives. This fixes Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick window-picker-applet evolution icon when new mail arrives.

Version 1.3 to 1.4

Updated FaenzaGreen icon theme and added SVG Evolution icons to prevent artifacts in window-picker-applet. Modified LeftMetabox to better border handle (increased left and right border width)

Files are hosted in FileFactory, you should be able to download by going to link page, scrolling down and fill in a captcha. Anyway I don't see reason enough to vote for bad, and i appreciate vote only if the artwork in fact dislike you, and no because of connection problems.

I switched file hosting to BinFire that allows a more direct download and the site overall speed is faster...

The Wallpaper #2 download button downloads the font file instead of the wallpaper.

Could all these be bundled into a .rar or .zip or even a .deb for easy install. I didn't download it because it's just to much trouble. Look to the elegant theme for ideas, great work on the theme though.

Thanks for the good feedback, i'm sorry for the download inconvenience, but the file addition resulted in a huge list, i just added a large file with the corresponding folders and 2 additional theme wallpaper.

No need to apologise bud, I managed to get all the files none the less, here's a few links to get you started. I have never done this personally, everything I need tends to have all ready been packaged up.

Thats why I added Left-Metabox, a similar window border like border-only but it keeps the maximized border. The only way of preventing hiding border in border-only is to modify the XML file. That was the original idea but did not have time yet. Thanks for the comment

Right, i post you here both file checksums
12b9bbf6c36f67cc18f260b5b4244e52 for all-files.tar.gz, and daed1eef4e649942f299f0876ab51678 for FaenzaGreen.tar.gz. If you get the same i don't know what the problem could be, if the checksums are different, may be a bad download or possibly a bad upload from me. Let me know, for checksum a file, in open a terminal in the file folder and write "md5sum filename.tar.gz", you can use tab completion, hope it helps.

md5sums match for both files. Maybe i'm not installing correctly? I'm just dragging the tar.gz into the appearance preference window

You should open the appearences window and click on install, and then select the .tar.gz file, not the all-files.tar.gz, that contains the files inside, i mean the icons file, the gtk theme, and stuff. It should install and then ask you if you want to use it.
