Description:

A simple and elegant usplash start-up screen.

During the throbbing stages a subtle focus spins around the Ubuntu logo.

During the loading stages, the logo builds into view instead of a progress bar. This means that instead of having a progress bar going across, roughly 30% of the logo is built when the start-up process is 30% complete.

The logo is build piece by piece from a faint outline to a solid complete Ubuntu logo.

It's a cool effect, that is difficult to explain in words. Have a look for yourself - you won't be disappointed.

Notes:
Will work with most standard resolutions.

You'll need to compile the usplash to get it working on your computer, but this isn't at all difficult. You'll need the following installed:

1. libusplash-dev
2. gcc

Exact installation instructions are given in the readme. Instructions for reverting back to your original usplash
are also included.

TODO:
Although it's a minor difference, the usplash currently looks the best with the higher resolutions. When I find the time I'll provide alternate versions for lower resolutions.

Edit:
This isn't designed to work with Ubuntu from Lucid Onwards, as Ubuntu has started using plymouth and not usplash. As a result, I don't know if this will work with the latest Ubuntu, and I have also ceased development of this theme.

 Issue

It's a great usplash and i love it.
But i update my version of ubuntu to 9.04, and i got a black rectangle on bottom, i think this is the area to show the disc verification messages, anyone knows how to solve it?

Sorry by my poor english.
Good work man, its the most creative usplash theme i've seen.

I haven't yet upgraded to 9.04 at home, so I haven't noticed this. I'll install the usplash on my work PC that's running 9.04 and see if I can fix that.

I think your guess is correct. As far as I know usplash doesn't allow you to overlay text on the image without giving the hideous background colour, so whenever Ubuntu displays text (eg hard-disk check) the rather messy black box appears.

lines 233-250 of "grey-blossom-usplash.c" deal with the placement of that box, so if you want to try fiddle with the code you might be able to place the box somewhere on the screen where it isn't visible. From the terminal, just type "make" and "make install" each time you edit it.

I was correct about the placement of the rectangle. It seems that it isn't hidden when there is no text in 9.04.

In order to get around this, I created a version for myself where it fades to black at the bottom of the screen with place for text. I didn't want to just hide the text box because then I'd never know when it was doing a drive check. Unfortunately the usplash sometimes doesn't load for some bizarre reason and is replaced by screaming from the PC speaker. So I thought it would be prudent to not include this version for download...

Also 9.10 isn't using usplash as far as I know, so I don't want to spend too much work on this because it won't work in a few months.

I've fixed the problem. You should be able to download it again.

Unfortunately I don't have any ideas. I haven't tested this in any of the newer Ubuntu dists (Karmic onwards), so there are likely to be problems - specially with the move to plymouth.
